Thank you - Dr. Walsh book reference and this forum
I was recently diagnosed with prostrate cancer, Gleason 9, PSA 4.
Found after HoLEP and TURP surgery.
MRI and Nuclear PET CT tests scheduled for next week.
This really hits you like a ton of bricks, so reading other peoples experiences and Dr. Walsh's book helps tremendously.

Bob,
Best of luck, don’t hesitate to reach out on this forum. Will be variety of opinions no one answer is right as really each individual person’s case is different due to multiple factors. What was right for one person may not be for the next although on the surface they look the same. You will get great guidance for further research on your own and all this will assist you in finding direction . One person will say do this and another will say don’t do that do this. Everyone has their own story and one’s success does not necessarily mean it is automatically replicated in another. Your final decision comes down to what you are comfortable with through your Doctor’s consultation’s (get several). Often times you are able to research recommendations and find the published studies regarding exactly why certain treatments are recommended. All of this is often just a numbers and statistics game on what is the best course of action. You might also read something that because something is 80% successful over 72% successful it is recommended but then brings maybe some more extreme side effects. So then if only 8 more people will actually gain the benefit , is it worth going one approach over another. You are right about getting hit with a ton if bricks, even more so with a Gleason 9.

Yup, doctor told me numbers which I never heard of before, then asked if I had any questions. We're sitting there pretty numb.......
I'm 99% sure I'll be treated at Univ Hospitals Seidman Cancer in Cleveland Ohio.
Cle Clinic is heart, UH is cancer.
More to come - MRI Friday, PET is the following Mon, then talk to my doctors.

2 ReactionsGood luck, Bob. Wheel1's comments are spot on, although it has taken me about 6 months to realize that variability in each case is reality. I think it's of specific value to note that Wheel1's comment regarding 80% vs 72% success rate - and what the doctors may recommend as a result, regardless of the side effects of the approach - is something you'll need to consider. I had that exact experience with my doctors - they recommended aggressive treatment based on the RADICALS-HD study results. I read the study several times, and then pursued a second opinion from Ohio State's James Center. I came away with a much different opinion from their doctors as to the best approach for my situation. I continue to try to find the "best" approach for me.
I wish you the best as you navigate this journey.
@fdossman001
Thanks !!
Is there only one study ? I saw references to it at NIH and The Lancet.
@fdossman001 I’m there as well with MRI, biopsy, Prolaris done and Pet coming up.
I feel very blessed for sites like this and the valuable input for many sharing their experiences. Dr Walsh book was also well worth the read.
Good luck

Hi bob,
Dr. Lee Ponsky did my robotic surgery @ UH. Good guy, great surgeon, had it done at Seidman back in 2014, still cancer free.

Thanks you very much......did you get 2nd opinions ? Just curious.
I’m sorry you’re having to go through this, but I’m glad you’re getting it looked into, and I sincerely wish you the very best with your further screening and treatment.
One thing you might consider discussing with your doctor is getting a second opinion on the biopsy results—a reread of the slides by an experienced prostate pathologist. Dr. Patrick Walsh recommends this approach in his book, and I think it can be reassuring to have another expert review the pathology.
You might also ask your doctor whether a genomic test, such as GPS, could provide additional information about the biological aggressiveness of the cancer and potentially help guide treatment decisions.
Thanks, I will bring that up Tuesday with my uroligist.'
good idea......cancer sure is alot of work. Thankful we have the hospitals in Cleveland Ohio
that we do and their areas of expertise.
