Testosterone replacement

Posted by hergiew @hergiew, Jan 9, 2022

Treatment of my prostate cancer with radiation and Lupron killed my body's ability to create testosterone so my level is now at about 13 and should be a minimum of 300.Mayo has created a plan for me to take a testosterone replacement with Arimidex but I need a urologist, endocrinologist or other physician in the Twin Cities area who is experienced with testosterone replacement and Arimidex. Does anyone know of such a person?

No, but I've been taking Clomid (clomiphene citrate) for over a decade. Prescribed by my endocrinologist, works great for me, though the dose has gradually increased over time.

Low T was a problem for me after a testicular cyst. The cyst resolved, but apparently that testicle got lazy and needed a push to get back to normal.

I am annoyed that last year the generic became unavailable in the USA - the Clomid brand owner bought the rights from the generic manufacturer and killed it, so I'm stuck paying 3x as much for the exact same product. The only way around it I can find is to get drop shipments from Canada, but I've never done something like that.

@gdimond, I believe you are asking about testosterone in relation to prostate cancer. I moved your question to this existing discussion:

I did this so you can read previous comments and connect with others.

There are several discussions about testosterone in the prostate cancer support group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/prostate-cancer/

Mine also has been killed by this evil drug and my doctor say I have to wait longer to get the testosterone it has been 18 months on a 6 month shot.

The side effects of ADT come from the drug shutting down your body's production of testosterone. If you stop ADT and your body does not resume production of testosterone to above castrate levels it would be the same as being on ADT, right? Why would your Dr. want to make you wait more than 18 months? You've already been hormone suppressed for 24 months.

I suggest that this group read " Radiotherapy with or without androgen deprivation therapy in intermediate risk prostate cancer." The article states that there is no difference on BRFS or OS in patients who are older than 70 years old who did not take the Lupron shot. My case is a little different as I have been on TRT since 2008 with Androgel. I just completed the 5 proton radiation treatments for my cancer 46 days ago. My radiation oncologist wanted to jab me with a six-month Lupron shot but I told him I didn't need it because my endocrinologist and I had already stopped my testosterone replacement to see why my T was low and I went castrate almost immediately. So he then had me tested after I stopped on my own and I came out with 12ng/dl. It has been122 days ago when I stopped and I still have no urges or anything happening with him. He wanted me to wait two years before going back on replacement, but I meet with a urologist the day after my first PSA test and follow up visit. I will start back with replacement then. I don't know why I even stopped in the first place given my age of 74 other than to hedge my bets on a positive outcome.
