Taking Jatdiance and Zepbound

Is anyone taking both Jardiance and Zepbound? My kidney Dr prescribed J and my PCP prescribed Z. Each Dr has a list of meds and should be aware but I wonder if both are necessary.
I'm going to ask each today but wanted to ask this group.
Thanks for sharing any relevant info.

Great question. I’m in a similar boat. I take Farxiga (since 2019) and Mounjaro (since 2025).

Zepbound and Mounjaro are the same terzepitide. You can google why doctor may prescribe one or the other.

Here’s a snippet from online research = Both Jardiance and Farxiga belong to the SGLT2 inhibitor class, which works by blocking the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys. This prevents glucose and sodium from being reabsorbed into the bloodstream, causing excess glucose to be excreted in urine. This mechanism helps lower blood sugar, reduce blood pressure slightly, and decrease strain on the heart and kidneys.

My endocrinologist first prescribed Jardiance, but after several horrific UTIs, she switched me to Farxiga.

I believe now the UTIs were from me continuing to eat carbs and sugar. Since 2023 I limit myself to less than 70 carbs per day, so I don’t have a lot of excess sugar being expelled in my urine, which was causing the terrible UTIs.

I’m proud of you for asking your doctors about these meds. They are not perfect. They can make mistakes, like all of us.

Here’s praying you will get the answers you need to give you peace of mind, lose weight and protect your heart and kidneys. 🙏😃
