Taking Cymbalta

Posted by vonpeterson @vonpeterson, Dec 30, 2018

Hi! I was having severe pain (fibro) so went to see a RA doctor (recommended by my family doctor). My blood work showed RA. RA doctor is not sure if I have RA or if my Fibro is just really bad. She took me off of Lexapro and put me on Cymbalta. It has helped my pain to be not so severe. But my mood has changed I am assuming from not taking the Lexapro. Am I doing the correct thing? Any info about Cymbalta will be appreciated! Thanks!!

Hello @vonpeterson, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I don't have fibromyalgia but do have other autoimmune diseases. There is another discussion for fibromyalgia that may give your post more visibility with others with similar symptoms and that have experience with drugs used for treatment. I'm tagging our moderator @kanaazpereira to see if we should move your post to the following discussion. You might want to read through the discussion and meet others that share your symptoms.

There is information available for most all drugs on the side effects. Lexapro can have some severe withdrawal symptoms so I would contact your doctor and discuss it with them as soon as possible. I have no medical training or background but I don't think it is a drug that you can stop taking without tapering off slowly.

RXList.com — Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) drug side effects and warnings (See Discontinuation Of Treatment With Lexapro under Precautions)

RXList.com — Cymbalta (Duloxetine Hcl) side effects

Are you able to share how your mood has changed?

Hoping others will join in soon and offer some insight or suggestions.

@vonpeterson Hi I want to welcome you to.our grojp. I have had fib for over 30 yeard and was on Lyrica for a long time ,dont know if my body became immune to it or not but the Dr then put me on Cymbalta.
