sudden cardiac arrest
Had "brain bleed" in Dec 2024. In hospital for several days. In April 2025 had Sudden Cardiac Arrest, kept alive by bystander until EMS arrived. Shocked back to life 4 times. Airlifted to larger hospital: in a coma for 4 daysand 9 days total in hospital. Completed hospital cardiac rehab. Have had long road back with memory issues (no memory of any of hospital stay), stamina, etc. I am 78. Anyone else have any of these issues or experiences?

I had 2 incidents of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. My first incident was witnessed and fortunately a friend who is a Paramedic was present and an AED was there.
My prognosis was HOCM and had alcohol septal ablation. Now I have cardiac amyloidosis (stiff heart syndrome) so I'm experiencing multiple ischemic strokes.
I have had several ambulance transports but no air ambulance. I have spent many days in ICU but no memory issues.
Keep trying to stay positive and seek out excellent Cardiologist.
Best to You and remember that Your not alone!!

3 ReactionsCongratulations on surviving your ordeal. It’s probably a good thing you don’t recall anything that happened to you. As a retired nurse the insult to the body we perform to keep you alive is not pretty. Now you just have to make sure you don’t repeat the episode again. Did you have any near death experience?

My second sudden cardiac arrest was more traumatic because I was alone. I have no reason why I woke up. I also do not know how long I was down. I did feel myself going down but I passed out before I hit the ground. My first episode I just dropped to the floor but had no warning. Both times when I came to it took a while to get my composure. Both incidents it took a while to think back on what just happened. No doubt there is a God! I'm blessed!
Now I have cardiac amyloidosis and I'm experiencing numerous ischemic strokes. Now I realize that there is no crystal ball and nobody knows for sure how long we have. Yes, get the best care that you can, but in the end it's out of our hands.

@jachrist Jim it appears someone has your back since you haven’t left us yet. I’ve been reading a lot about near death experiences that some people experience when their heart stops. If it ever comes to pass that I experience this I’m hoping for an NDE. Life becomes a little boring as we age so I’m hoping for some excitement that’s out of this world.
Jenatsky,
Apparently it was not my time. I'm struggling however with two heart diseases. I have far too many medical things wrong with me. Stag 3 kidney and liver disease, prostate cancer, and 6 malignant tumors in my bladder. After surgery at Mayo I'm cancer free.
With so many medical issues, I had one Dr tell me that I need to get my life in order. I have made all arrangements for my funeral so my family will not have to worry.
Take Care,
Jim
