Success with Tikosyn for peroxysmal afib?
My cardiologist has recommended Tikosyn to replace Multaq for my paroxysmal afib. Multaq side effects aren’t to my liking. I have agreed to undergo the 2-1/2 day hospital stay to monitor Tikosyn’s effect . Does anyone have experience with this drug to share? Thank you- more confidence to switch needed here:).

Hello @mfpiano
I did the hospital stay to load with Tikosyn in September of 2023. I had no issues with loading it and have had no side effects. I had had some breakthrough episodes but they have been self converting. I was in persistent afib for six months before it was controlled with Tikosyn so am thankful for this drug. I have Apical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which makes afib harder to tolerate and harder to treat. I am 82 and active and hope this drug keeps working for me.

2 Reactions@emo44 thank you! Reading accounts of success certainly helps one gain confidence. Hopefully your “remission” will continue for many more years.
I was started on Tikosyn in the hospital in 2019 when I had had 4 ablations that basically failed to correct my problems, and I was not home a full two weeks when I went into SVT again (always have to be converted in the ER, nothing else works). After that I was put on Flecainide which has thankfully kept me in sinus rhythm since. I have occasional flips and missed beats but don’t go into any full episodes on it. I have no “plumbing” cardiac issues so the Flecainide is ok for now, no side effects with it either. But I think my case is hard core, mist patients probably do well on Tikosyn!
Just loaded last week. No real problems with the med during the hospital stay and it’s capped the tachycardia and afib. Good luck!
Again, thanks for the comments, I’ll be discussing further w the nurse today. Hoping for as much success as I’m reading of there!
