Hi Patty -
I am unsure if you are aware of this but Mayo Clinic does offer some information online in regards to spinal stenosis surgery and treatment. It is available here: http://www.mayoclinic.org/spinal-stenosis/ and here http://www.mayoclinic.org/spinal-stenosis/treatment.html.

My husband was diagnosed with spinal stenosis at Mayo. The MD suggested exercise to strengthen the muscles. A few years later, he fell and his his head had suffered a spinal contusion. I would suggest that you visit Mayo and discuss surgery. As difficult as that is, it’s better than a spinal cord injury.

I was diagnosed via X-ray last month and it causes me to have daily headaches. they are not bad at the time but next week it might be a migraine week for me. it also causes pain in my back
