Sinus infections while on kevzara
Has anyone had trouble with recurrent sinus infections while on Kevzara? I was unable to drop below 12.5 mg prednisone without the return of PMR symptoms. Since adding Kevzara I've been able to rapidly drop to 3 mg., now decreasing one mg a week. However, I've also had one sinus infection after another. Antibiotics knock it out, then a couple of weeks later I get another one. They aren't associated with a cold or virus, just the sinus infection. I don't want to go off Kevzara, but the sinus infections and all the antibiotics are a real drag. Thanks!

Talk to your Rheumy about possibly lengthening the interval between Kevzara injections - thus lowering the steady state amount you would have in your system. This might raise your immune system enough to make a difference. I happen to know that Kevzara comes in a 200mg injectable and a 150mg injectable so you might be able to use the lower dose.
Also, talk with your doctors and google other ways to help build your immune system while on Kevzara. Lifestyle changes might be in order.
Please be very careful about taking supplements, they are not controlled by the FDA and their contents and purity cannot be assured. Also they can be toxic if taken long enough since many are not water soluble. One last caution, they can stress your liver, kidneys and other organs. Proceed with caution with supplements would be my warning. Diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, etc would be the lifestyle changes I am thinking of.

4 ReactionsI had similar experience while on KEVZARA. I was able to reduce prednisone rather quickly but It seemed as though while on KEVZARA I would get more of the infections that I had periodically gotten over the years. Getting cold sores were what I had most often while on kevzara. Ear and sinus infections were part of the mix. After a bout with diverticulitis I was put back on prednisone. I was on the injections for nine months.

1 ReactionI’m not on Kevzara but using saline nasal rinse thoroughly morning and night and after allergen exposure helped eliminate chronic sinusitis.
The aerosol mist is most effective. An ENT advised
proper nose clearing blocking one nostril and blowing out the other.

3 Reactions@grumpa Interesting. I’ve also been getting cold sores. Once I get off prednisone in a few weeks 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼I’ll talk to my doctor about increasing the time between kevzara doses.
