Shin splints or stress fractures?
Tib/Fib compound break in 2009. Have always had leg pain since but was overweight. Recently lost 40lbs and still feels like shin splints on a daily basis. Ibuprofen helps but don’t like taking that everyday. I’m 5’4” and 150 lbs. I should be able to hop on one foot but it’s impossible without pain. Is it stress fractures or shin splints?

Unfortunately, there is no way anyone, even a surgeon, can answer that question without imaging. At least get x-rays done. Your GP could order it

1 ReactionI had a stress fracture on my left shin 20 years ago. It was from playing basketball about 20 pounds heavier than I needed. Plus, I always was a one leg jumper. They had me sleep with a bone growth stimulator every night. They also had me on some osteoporosis medicine to aid the healing. I can’t remember how fast it worked, but it definitely cured me. I was probably around 36 or 37 years old. I could actually feel bumps on my shin bone before starting the treatment like little pieces had broken off. I remember that pain, and kept playing right through it. Good luck!
