I thought this was an important video highlighting the risks of too much calcium in supplements but not food:

Hello @tillymack,

Here is a quick answered question from Mayo Clinic about calcium supplements and whether or not they increase risks for heart issues:

Right now, research shows there may be conflicting data and risks, but like the video you shared mentioned there is no risk from calcium intake through foods. The data and research gaps seem to be specifically focused on calcium supplements. It is always best to talk with a provider when starting any supplement to make sure there are not contraindications with current medications or other potential risk factors.

At while on Evenity the fr requires periodic blood tests to check calcium levels in blood.
Would having a normal level indicate the calcium supplements were not harmful?

REPLY

Since many people with osteoporosis have other health conditions, thorough blood tests and a good doctor interpreting them are important…CKD is an example of a condition requiring excellent dietary balance, and super care about any type of supplements.

There are several forms of calcium in supplements-notably some are plant-based…worthwhile to do your own research.

@JustinMcClanahan I always wonder if fortified milk is calcium by food or a supplement? Any thoughts on this?

Maybe the ingredient label of the specific product would provide an indication of what is added.
