Rinvoq and abdominal pain

Posted by graydude @graydude, May 18 11:29am

I’ve been on Rinvoq for about 4 months. I’ve been experiencing abdominal pain in my upper stomach area for the last two months. I e had a CT scan which did not turn up anything. I’ve had diverticulitis in the past and Rinvoq can cause rupture of the bowels. My CT scan did not show any inflammation. My Rhummy is at a loss as to where this pain is coming from. Anyone else experience abdominal pain while on Rinvoq? Looks like a Endoscopy is in my future.

Do you have a GI doctor? It seems reasonable to let them know what is going on and the CT Scan results. Give them a chance to lean in on this problem. You might consider talking with you PCP also. Remember these doctors are on your team and available when you need their knowledge and assistance in making decisions as well as when you need them to Dx and Rx.

I had a mild bout of diverticulitis and came off Tyenne (Actema bio-similar) per my Rheumy. I talked with my GI and he said it was not needed to go off. I will admit that the biologic made me feel better than I have felt in 7 years. I was really sad to go off. I had some other side effects, which were more concerning, so it seemed like a reasonable move. Not sure what my next step will be.

I hope you get to the bottom of your problem. While you are searching for the source of problem you might ask your Rheumy if it is reasonable to take Rinvoq every other day until y'all know more. Always remember you have options and that your doctor has a case load that limits the time they have available to focus on you, so never feel bad about asking a simple or "obvious" question. Reducing your Rinvoq could help diagnosis if the pain recedes - right now they don't really know if Rinvoq is at play or if this pain is unrelated.
