Rifampin
I heard from my doc about a clinical trial that’s wrapping up, where Rifampin was not given as part of the big 3. The study included only Ethambutol and Azithromycin. Apparently, patients did just as well on the 2 meds. Check with your doc, but my doc is great and worth a post from me here.

Yes, when the doctor mentioned that I consider taking the antibiotics for the Intercellular infection she did not include Rifampin. That was Dr. McShane in 2024. I decided to continue with watchful waiting to this day.

1 ReactionMy specialist at NJH has a different interpretation of the two versus three study. In their opinion, the study showed that three drugs is better than two at conversion, but given the conversion rates of a different study, re Arikayce as a front line drug, the third drug should be Arikayce (rather than rifampin). I have heard other specialists make similar comments recently, i.e. that the recent study results when read together support a new Big 3: azithromycin, ethambutol and Arikayce.

3 Reactions@bayarea58 Yes, the Arikayce was also brought up for me by Dr. McShane and not the Rifampin..

@bayarea58 good morning -
I’m surprised that the arikayce is used. From what I’ve read it has very dangerous possible side effects especially for people with cardiac issues
