Has anyone had a reversal but then go back to a stoma?

hello @summerlibra. Did you have a colostomy 4-5 years ago? I have a friend who had colon cancer in her 40s. She had her colostomy reversed after 2-3 years but I don't know how much colon was removed. This was done at Cleveland Clinic. Have you looked into the discussions about ostomy and reversal?

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year. The Ostomy was for volvulus and stricture of large intestine but not cancer 4 years ago. Wherever you think would be the best category is fine with me. Thank you Sue.

Have you since developed new symptoms that have you considering a stoma again?

My stoma and output have changed which are causing me to deal with leakage, etc. and consider options. Perhaps changes are only caused by weight change from 97 at the time of surgery, to 135 pounds presently. There have been no adverse effects of the procedure, so I hesitate to change.

Hi. Had bowel perforation in 2016 and wore bag for six months. At age 75, October, 2023, had second bowel perforation and now wear permanent bag. It's awful and I hate it. How are you doing?

@jazzbag, I'm sorry to hear that adapting to a permanent ostomy is challenging. Understandable. You're not alone. In this related discussion, you'll find posts on both sides of fence: Some who feel limited by an ostomy and others who prefer it over the alternative and are able to return to activities they weren't able to do before.
