Dear Mary,
I am so sorry to hear of your medical problems. PLEASE do research on Google to see if there are other alternatives. Also PLEASE get a second opinion from a Doctor/Surgeon from a new (different) Hospital. With such a drastic and devastating surgery as losing your whole arm--I would even search out a third opinion from another new and different Hospital. The reason I am giving you this advice is because I have had six operations and I wish I had gone to another Hospital for additional surgical opinions before having the operations. Most Doctors/Surgeons will agree with their "Peers within the same Hospital or medical practice" and you will be back where you started. Also I would not tell the new Doctor/Surgeon (your second and/or third opinion) what the first Doctor recommended until he/she examines your medical records, X-rays, MRIs, etc...and examines your arm themselves. I have found in my experience every time I told the new Surgeon what the first Surgeon recommended...they agreed with the First Surgeon. My husband asked me to ask the new Surgeons for their Medical Opinion without giving them the first Surgeon's Conclusion & Recommendation reports. This helped me a lot with the other surgeries as I truly felt I had been able to receive second and third opinions that changed the magnitude of what was truly needed in surgery...and I was able to have less drastic surgeries as a result. My concern too for you is if the Doctor told you the cement broke up in your arm...this seems like a defect with the cement used in your arm. I would email, call and write major university teaching medical Schools/ Hospitals throughout your area of the country as well as the entire country. I have seen on the Discovery Channel how certain Surgeons at University of Chicago and at John Hopkins Hospital have taken what other hospitals called impossible and have successfully done surgeries that have saved these patient's lives. Keep fighting for yourself. I will pray for you. God bless you.
Sincerely,
MaryinKansas
