Reclast Infusion for people with autoimmune diseases

I received my first Reclast infusion 2 days ago. I opted for the 2.5mg half dose with 1 hour infusion. I felt fine immediately after the infusion for the first 12 hours. I woke in the night to shaking chills, fever 101, extreme nausea, felt like back of my skull was hit by a sledgehammer. The next morning the rib and spine pain began. This is a pain level that I cannot describe. I was screaming at the waves of pain and spasms in my back. It felt like my ribs were breaking from within. I am on day three now. I will never do this again. Thank God I opted for the half dose. If not I’m sure I would have been hospitalized. I do suffer from multiple autoimmune diseases. This should have never been recommended for someone like me. Beware.

I just found this group, 15 days after having 1st Reclast 5mg infusion. My reaction with this is almost identical to @aberg. I have a number of autoimmune diseases and was wondering how your outcome has been with this, if any doctor has indicated cause of this response and what if any long term effects there might be? Effects on thyroid?

I just found this group, 15 days after having 1st Reclast 5mg infusion. My reaction with this is almost identical to @aberg. I have a number of autoimmune diseases and was wondering how your outcome has been with this, if any doctor has indicated cause of this response and what if any long term effects there might be? Effects on thyroid?

@kmhutch I had my infusion the day after Christmas so I am about 4 weeks post infusion and I am feeling well. I felt most of the side affects the first 2 weeks which slowly subsided thereafter. Mostly the fatigue and headaches lingered the longest. I’m feeling pretty strong now and surprisingly my appetite has increased. I have not experienced any effects as of yet on my thyroid. I have Hashimoto’s, Sjogrens and celiac. I read online that it’s something to do with a strong T-cell response and activating an inflammatory response in the bones.

@aberg Thank you. That is exactly what I am experiencing, except feeling off maybe due to thyroid. Am hypothyroid now as result of treating Graves 6 yrs ago. Also celiac and MColitis. Was it recommended to you after the reaction to have any bloodwork to test for kidney function or anything else?

@kmhutch I did have bloodwork and urine tests 3 days after the infusion due to the extreme back pain. My bloodwork was normal but I did have 2+ occult blood in my urine. I followed up with a urologist and I am having a CT and ultrasound next week just to make sure everything is ok.
