Received this from my Canadian pharmacy about my Eliquis, (Apixiban)

This was from an email from Mapleleaf Pharmacy, which I use to get my apixiban.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has enacted a new policy governing international mail shipments, with key requirements scheduled to take effect on October 22, 2026. We have just learned that, under the planned implementation by CBP and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), virtually all prescription-medication parcels will be prohibited from entering the United States beginning on that date.

What’s Changing
Entry will be prohibited if the medication being imported is commercially available in the United States -- even when it costs significantly more -- or if the supplying company specifically markets to Americans.

These restrictions will apply to pharmaceutical parcels sent by pharmacies anywhere outside the United States. Taken together, they are expected to effectively close the personal-importation pathway that millions of Americans have relied upon for more than 25 years to obtain safe and affordable medications.

Any thoughts, maybe workarounds? I know I can’t afford the cost of it if this effectively shuts the door.

My last 90 day supply of Eliquis dropped to $111 (copay) from $222 thru Optum mail order and Medicare part D so that was a nice surprise.

Just paid $154 out the door for a refill. Optum is telling me it will be $514. That’s a no brainer for me.

Another dent in our budget, a most unpleasant financial surprise! Will have to
place my Canadian Rx order soon. Thank you for the information.

Hello,
If you've ever served in the United States Military, check with a local VA office for information. It might be a benefit to you on pricing.

@term You are very fortunate to have such a resource available to you, at least one small thank you for your service!

I looked at the link and you need to be a lawyer to understand it. It looks like a tariff will be applied to any import received and the payment must be forwarded within 7 days. Need to really take a great deal of time reading this to try to understand. Perhaps your local politician running for Federal Office needs a letter asking him or her what exactly this means for your prescriptions from Canada?

All I know, is that I had to pay $884.00 for my Eliquis, here in the US, a few months back! I did not have the time to check out Mapleleaf Pharmacy etc. because it was urgent that I had to go on Eliquis immediately, due to a stroke!

Todays Wall Street Journal address the cut off date as October 22nd for importing drugs from Canada of any other foreign country. After 10-22-26 prescription drugs will need to move through a formal entry process with an accountable company or person legally on the hook if the shipment doesn't qualify. Right now Zonos, a St. George, UT company processes customs documentation for foreign mail services, handles much of the mail moving through Canada and other countries. That means, Zonos, not customs agents will effectively decide which packages get through, by checking each one against FDA's actual criteria for personal drug imports, most of which have gone unenforced at scale for years. The FDA generally won't stop a personal shipment if it treats a serious illness with no US treatment, isn't marketed to American consumers, carries no unusual safety risk and comes with a doctor's note for a 90 day supply or less.
