Pulmonary Embolism

Posted by @mwcsanderson, Jul 12, 2011

I developed a DVT in my left calf in 2008 after a 10 hour plane flight which resulted in a bi-lateral pulmonary embolism. My lungs have recovered but I’m not sure what to expect long term from my left calf. It tends to retain fluid if I run/jog a lot and I find that I need to frequently wear a compression sleeve. Can anyone share what long term effects they’ve seen from a DVT in the leg?

I had a DVT in 2010 in my left leg and the swelling with fluid and pain was really bad until I found dr Feldtman at Methodist Hospital in Dallas who has developed new procedure using TPA and in an overnight stay I’ve been pain free and no swelling for 1 1/2 years. Good luck!

I had a DVT & PE in September ’06 from a July injury. After this long I’m sure of several things. I have to wear a compression stocking everyday, our 12×24″ heating pad is worth it weight in gold, I take Warafrin daily (until they find something better / maybe Pradaxa), I can’t do everthing I used to, I have most of my strength back, my stamina isn’t coming back and I think I’m still alive.
I used to get a lot of weird sensations in my calf (numbness, pulling & stretching, electric shock like sensations), which are getting less frequent.
