Prolapse concern

Well I saw the surgeon regarding my constant problem with my second half of my Loop Ostomy. My intestine has come to the surface through the same place as my stoma and is causing problems. It’s about 5” long and 2” wide. Almost fills my appliance and causes problems. We tried icing it, powdered sugar, massaging it and it shrinks up some but as soon as I get up it almost immediately drops down again.
Dr said I need surgery to cut it back and stitch it so it won’t come back out.
Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

Yes, It has been 8 years since my Illeostomy and recently my stoma prolapses out and gets long and bigger around. When I lay down or over night it goes back in but when I get up it prolapses out again. It did not do that until just recently so I am going to consult a hernia surgeon to see what can be done about it.

I’m curious, why a hernia doctor and not your surgeon?

The last time I checked (it was a *long* time ago) the hernia doctors didn't want anything to do with stomas, but that could certainly have changed.

@fckaiser let us know how the appointment with hernia surgeon goes goes!
