Progressively worsening loss of thought and zoning out

Posted by Brittany @britt0827, May 21, 2017

Over the past few months I’ve had a huge issue with zoning out and loss of thought. The past 2-4 months have been the worse. I can be in the middle of a sentence and stop and not even realize it until I come back to and see the perplexed look of whom ever I’m talking to. How long was I zoned out? Did I say something and forget? I don’t know. Sometimes I will be in the middle of a conversation and simply completely forget what I was saying and often have to ask. Sometimes I even have a conversation and am aware of it at the time but in later times don’t recall having that conversation at all, or it may not even be a conversation, it may be someone asks me a question but I answer twice because I don’t realize I already answered once. People have recently been asking me if I’m okay more and more because I’ve been zoning out and forgetting what I was doing or what I was saying more commonly. Any advice or suggestions?

Hello @britt0827 Nice to e-meet you here on Connect. We are primarily a group of non-medical folks sharing our experiences and thoughts, but donot make diagnoses.

So my first question comes from that perspective — have you spoken to your doctor about these symptoms? Personally when I have something ‘medical’ happen to me a second time I make sure to write it down and make an appointment with my Family doctor to get her input in it.

I wish you all the best at this time of uncertainty for you. I hope you keep in touch here!

Peace & strength

Hello @britt0827– I would like to add my Welcome to Scotts. You have come to the right place and we are happy to have you on Mayo Clinic Connect.

I came across this link Memory loss on the Mayo Clinic webpage. It gives a nice guideline as to when you should see your doctor and explains the importance of diagnosis.

Scott is right in asking if you have made an appointment with your doctor to address your issues? Here on connect we are big believers in being the best advocate for your personal health care. It couldn’t be more important. 🙂 speak up and ask questions! If you need help coming up with a list of questions you should be asking- this is the perfect forum to get advice from others who have been down that road.

@britt0827, if you feel comfortable sharing- how old are you?
