Procedure scheduling in Jacksonville

Posted by pal @palni, Mar 16 11:48am

Visited Mayo- JAX last week.. Provider suggested a procedure to do.. I have been waiting for 3 days and no one called me to schedule the procedure yet.. Left VM’s .. No response for that as well.

Anyone had similar experience in Mayo Jacksonville.. I heard that Mayo @ Rochester are good in these things..Anyone had similar experiences?

Still no luck with the procedure scheduling .. This is a cardiology procedure … have talked to the cardio dept appt helpdesk again.. They said they will message the concerned dept that handles procedure scheduling.

So frustrating. I’m glad you’re sticking with it, but I dunno really it seems that this shouldn’t be so difficult. What happens when something is more urgent? Or maybe they have contingencies for that but it’s the minimally to moderately urgent things that can fall between the cracks.

@palni, I'm sorry to hear that this is proving more difficult than it should be. I know that your energy is focused on getting appointments right now. If you need additional help or if you wish to report your experience to Mayo Clinic, the Office of Patient Experience would like to hear from you.

Office of Patient Experience
https://www.mayoclinic.org/about-mayo-clinic/patient-experience
Phone: 844-544-0036 (toll-free)
Email: opx@mayo.edu

I'm also tagging other Mayo Florida patients like @ess77 @genocurt @beatitudes @tra418 @donnab213, who can share more of their experiences and how they worked with the schedulers to arrange multiple appointments in a visit.

@palni, is the issue that the scheduler is not calling as arranged?

I'm sorry they couldn't help you. I definitely agree with the "keep calling" them strategy...I wish it didn't have to be that way.

For what it's worth, I can relate to the way, the financial investment, and then the disappointment. It's funny/not-funny, I just happened to have an appointment with my rheumatologist today and my neurology NP a few weeks ago, and they both said they have patients who've had similiar experiences being requested/required to re-do multiple tests, and the outcome has been mixed. I was even more disappointed because I had very little help coordinating appointments while I was in town with different departments even though I had referrals. Then, some offices refused telehealth; it was actually pretty disorganized.

But it seems to depend significantly on the department coordinating the appointments.

I had all Gastroenterology appts , so first day was Covid test ( this was 10/2021 , then 2 hr SIBO test , then next day Entroscopy C scan of small intestine w/ contrast , and 3rd am early , Endoscopy w/ Endo flip .
So was 3 days and spending 3 nights on Air B & B w/ our dogs 20 min away beachside from Mayo Jacksonville.
I really hope they can help You!

I am having the same problem. I have been waiting for a couple of days for someone to call me from the GI department for a non-urgent appointment. What is going on with the Mayo Clinic? And the office of patient experience doesn't seem to have any influence on these processes. My husband who has a lung transplant does not have problems getting quick appointments though.

Are you also at the Jacksonville campus?

If so, it’s kind of eye-opening to me to find others in a similar boat as I was… It sounds funny, but I felt really isolated having a not-so-positive experience because of all the posts I read about how smoothly things go and how Mayo excels at coordinating care.

If it’s risen to the level for you that you wanted to contact Patient Experience, I learned that you need to file a “care concern” and not feedback, because for those they’re required to look into and provide you with a response. But ultimately clinical decisions would come down the provider(s), and sometimes the resolution isn’t what we want.

In my case, it resulted in someone finally calling me, but it was still an uphill battle to get appointments scheduled, and there will still mistakes any misinformation. It’s really upsetting.
