Posterior Cervical Fusion C1-C2 12/05/2025

I had Posterior Cervical Fusion C1-C2 on 12/05/2025. After 5 months of recovery, I have days when in the afternoon my neck becomes very sore in the area of the surgery. Sometimes I keep going sometimes I lay down for an hour. Is it a mistake when I keep active when its painful? I was told by the surgeon that it was a 6-month recovery. When I read up on this procedure it mentioned a 6–12-month recovery. Any experience with this procedure and the recovery time?

Have I just been lucky with my experiences of having spinal fusion procedures done on my neck at the C5-C6 and C7-T1 levels? It seems like more and more of us are having problems with the screws backing out or coming loose now. Have the procedures changed? Or is it when they're done from the back of the neck instead of through the throat?
My operations happened in early 2017, and then late in 2018. They were performed by 2 different neurosurgeons at 2 different hospitals. Both involved going through my throat, and used a piece of donor bone, along with a plate and screws. They're both completely fused now with zero complications. My symptoms, random shooting pains or electric shocks, have been reduced by about 90%. They still happen, but rarely now.

Thousands of kicks & punches. Cement and brick breaking with feet, head and hands. Twisting of the hips. Power Lifting. Motorcycle racing (and crashing). In addition, soft bones. I have had surgery at Ohio State University and am now working with the Cleveland Clinic. Highly regarded surgeon that I respected, has left CC. Have appointment with Orthopedic/Neurosurgeon in August at CC. Thanks for asking. Also, have been on 2 years of daily Tymlos injection to strengthen my bones. It's working.

@ateaz I think it's time to see another doctor, what you're describing doesn't seem right. Get copies of your x-rays and MRI's if they've done them on you, and ask your GP for a referral to another surgeon, preferably a neurosurgeon.

I had surgery c4-7 acdf followed by c2 to T2 with c2 and c3 laminectomy. I understand about the not being able to move your head. And I am afraid to drive. Anyway my dr wants to remove all the hardware. Not sure
