Positive update 9 months post RALP

Posted by 54fighting @54fighting, May 19 2:53pm

I hade my RALP last August at Mayo in Rochester. Went in with unfavorable 7 (4+3) diagnosis after biopsy. Surgery went well but pathology came back showing mostly 8 (4+4) diagnosis. Being 58 in fairly healthy and showing no signs prior to diagnosis, I am very grateful that my GP pushed me to get checked after my PSA showed a slow trend upward. Peaked at 4.9 just prior to surgery. With all of the aggressive factors that I had, if I had waited this might be a different message.
The good news is that my first 3 post surgery PSA tests have come back undetectable. Fingers crossed that trend continues. I was one of the fortunate ones that had no leakage or incontinence issues at all. ED has been a little slower to recover but now 9 months removed things are going pretty good there as well. I have had to change up meds and doses a few times to find a combo that works but the last month has been close to "normal".
Always willing to answer any questions if I can.
Hoping this provides a little encouragement to everyone who is going through this, I wish you all the best outcomes going forward and keep up the fight.

Thanks for the encouragement brother. Something I need right now staring down a near-term RALP.

With a multifocus and bilateral diagnosis I feel I have no good treatment options beyond getting it removed and dealing with whatever comes after.

Good, to hear. I think it helped that you are younger and not almost 79 like I am.

Make sure you keep getting those PSA test, happy for you!!
