1 ReactionI think that these condition names can get confusing since they change them with some regularity. Hard to keep up. This one, persistent depressive disorder, used to be called dysthymia.
Here is Mayo Clinic's most recent description:
- Persistent depressive disorder https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/persistent-depressive-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20350929

2 ReactionsI cannot comment on the specific condition, my diagnosis is bipolar 2. But I will say that talk therapy has been as important to me for managing the condition as medication has. The beauty of talk therapy is there aren't any physical side effects. So giving it a shot certainly won't cause harm. It can be difficult to find the best therapist. Everyone has different needs, so finding a good match is dependent on the chemistry, which isn't necessarily the fault of either party. You might have to be patient and shop around a bit. But there's nothing to lose in trying it and potentially a lot to gain.

2 ReactionsTalk therapy is very helpful for my major depressive disorder. I would think it would be help for any depressive (and other) disorders. Medications can help you to the point where talk therapy can be very helpful. To me, they have to go hand in hand.
