Paravaginal Defect

Posted by @jpdalt in Women's Health, Feb 23, 2012

I have received a diagnosis of Right Sided Paravaginal Defect. I had a hysterectomy for prolapse 12 years ago. Recently I started feeling pressure and bulging and thought perhaps I had a cystocele or rectocele. Today I saw the doctor and she told me that my bladder and bowel are fine but that I have a right sided Paravaginal Defect. Does anyone know what the difference is? I haven't been able to find much on the internet about it. I know there is a difference because my doctor told me that a pessary will not help with my problem and that surgery is the only option. She also told me that mesh is the only option since I have already had surgery before. I am concerned about the use of mesh because of all the bad publicity about it in recent months. Any thoughts or advice for me? I am willing to get surgery as opposed to using a pessary because I want it fixed. I never liked the pessary anyway. My main concern is that I avoid mesh if possible.
