Osteoporosis medication alternatives
I’m 73 and have osteoporosis. I will be seeing an endocrinologist the first week of June. I really don’t want to take medications…afraid of side effects! Are there any good alternatives?

How bad is your osteoporosis?
There are many sub topics under the main category of Osteoporosis addressing this kind of question. I'd suggest checking those out too.

Many of us come here and post to find different options and gain others experiences.
There are alternatives, but each comes with it's own risks/benefits.
You can search the site, but here are some links to existing discussions to get you started.
Some (myself) are using HRT.
Here are two of those discussions on this site:

Some are using a different variety of supplements along with exercise.

1 ReactionHas anyone used Limfa therapy for an osteoporosis form of treatment?
Pros and cons of starting prolia at T score of -2.5
@dasiy -2.5 is the lowest DEXA score that shows osteoporosis. How old are you? That would be a factor since I've heard once you start Prolia, you probably need to stay on it for life. Depending on your age, I would investigate other drugs first over Prolia due to the high fracture risk if you ever want or need to stop taking it.
Remember that bones change very slowly so give yourself time to investigate the drugs available, their success rate and side effects, and what drug may be needed afterwards to retain your gains on the med you take.
Research a drug's "absolute risk" not the "relative risk" of fracture prevention. For example, "According to the review conducted by the ACP (American College of Physicians), the relative risk reduction of hip fractures with bisphosphonate treatment for at least 3 years is 36%; however, the absolute risk reduction is only 0.6%. Framed as number needed to treat, 167 patients need to be treated for 3 years to prevent one hip fracture."

Prof. Bente Langdahl, a leading expert on Prolia discontinuation, gave a talk on “Management of Patients Discontinuing Denosumab (Prolia)” at the 2024 Santa Fe Bone Symposium. It’s a helpful overview of the key considerations when stopping Prolia and typical strategies used. Worth a look, and something to discuss with your physicians to make sure any plan aligns with current expert approaches
