ORGOVYX vs ESTROGEN

Posted by tallbob @tallbob, Feb 3 12:23pm

Have Gleason 8 stage four with PSA 2.62 Latest PSMA PET CT scan negative.

Had radiation to two lymph nodes below the kidneys over a year ago, psa dropped very little. Dr is suggesting to start Orgovyx for six weeks to see how side effects are then add another drug if side effects are tolerated.
Any experiences with going with the Estrogen instead of the Orgovyx?
The clinic called to get information to send the Orgovyx and copay is over a thousand dollars per month. Estrogen around 50 a month.

I know a few guys on estradiol, Which is what you get if you’re doing Estrogen.

It works well and has fewer side effects. It causes breast enlargement in about 50% of men, You can have your chest radiated if you want to prevent that, But you need to have it done before doing estradiol or very soon after starting.

If you have BRCA2 you cannot do it.

If you’d like to get some more information, go to the ancan.org Website and search for estrogen. You will find two seminars given by Richard Wassersug PhD. He’s used estradiol for over a decade And has a group that supports using estrogen. He has also a written a book on ADT.

Some doctors will not support doing this. If you have that problem, you may have to find a different doctor.

I had six months of Orgovyx ADT pills and they were very tolerable. I never had a single hot flash and the only issues were minor weight gain and occasional fatigue possibly from the combination of Orgovyx therapy and five weeks of concurrent external beam radiation treatments. From everything I read, Orgovyx pills are a much easier ADT than Lupron and other injections. Good luck to you!
