Opinions on Use of OTC Enzymes verses Rx Enzymes
Prescription pancreatic enzymes are costly even with Medicare insurance. Amazon has pancreatic enzymes with similar unit amounts as Zenpep. They are a fraction of the cost. The Amazon enzyme supplements seem to be working so far with digesting food, decreased gas. Any opinions on which is better?

I would take the Amazon bottle to your gastroenterologist or dietitian and have them compare the actual lipase units per capsule and formulation with your Zenpep prescription. I would also ask about less expensive prescription options and patient-assistance programs rather than abandoning prescription PERT solely because of cost.

1 ReactionI’m on a Medicare Advantage plan and pay nothing for Creon. Maybe you should check with your insurance. Otherwise, there are programs that can help - look at manufacturers site, Creon - Abvie. I’m on a Facebook group and people talk about getting help there.
Amazon site has a lot of knock-off products for everything.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I will take the Amazon brand to the next appointment. Unfortunately Zenpep company refuses patients on Medicare insurance. My insurance won't approve Creon.

Holy cow! Which Advantage plan do you have?
Our plan doe cover the Creon - now, but I just paid another $341.69 for an 11-day supply. Supposedly when I hit our Out-of-Pocket total, they cover it all. Insurance companies are so duplicitous in their explanations of benefits and denials., it’s hard to understand with a degree
Our hospital has programs for folks whose lives depend on these drugs but can’t afford them. Perhaps this gentleman can ask his!

1 ReactionI’m in California and on Alignment Sutter Plus Medicare Advantage Plan. However, in further thought…I do have lung cancer and that’s expensive so I’ve probably met my minimums or maximums with all my cancer meds and treatments. But I don’t pay anything for my Creon. I’m on a Facebook EPI group and many say they get help with their Enzyme costs.
