Operation & urethra could be damaged.

if a person who is 80 years old goes to hospital to have a groin hernia op without telling the dr then 24 hours later needs to be catheter inserted to to remove 1.6 litres of urine. then needs a catheter left in situ for a month could there be damage to the bladder or the urethra what are the chances of them having to have a catheter in for the rest of his life.
