Mystery illness

Posted by @debbied1 in Digestive Health, Oct 21, 2012

I have been to the Mayo for three visits. So far no one can figure what is wrong.
After a cruise to Alaska in July of 2011 I started loosing weight, not trying. So far 45 pounds. It started by not being hungry, nothing tasting good, nothing sounded good. My symptoms are: stomach ache, dizziness, fatigue, blurry eyes, some stomach cramping. MANY tests have been taken. My husband and I thought I had picked up some bug on the trip but that does not seem to be the case. I had thyroid problems taken care of along the way. Anyone else out there with similar problems?

Except the weight loss I have many of your symptoms. Mine started at least a couple years ago. I'm sick to my stomach all the time, I have a lot of pain in my stomach/abdomen, everything can set it off, including drinking water. I too have had many tests including an Octrio(sp) Scan and a MIBG scan with the outcome of no tumors. While that is good news it doesn't help.
On top of that ALL the doctors can say is "Go to the Mayo Clinic". That is a total cop out in my opinion as well as bullshit. I wish I could get away with walking from my problems by telling people to go somewhere else.

I'm at the end of my rope.

What are your next steps?

I have just taken yet another lab to send down to Mayo. My Doc. has been wonderful and has not given up. I guess I will wait to see what 's next in his opinion. Sorry to hear about your troubles, sure is depressing isn't it?
I feel like a wimp most of the time because I look OK most of the time.

My husband and I have thought that it is some sort of a bug from the very beginning. Thanks for your concern.

Has your doctor suggested the 24hour urine test? That may help rule out any kind of tumor.

Hi Debbie,
I'm sorry for what you are going through, but you have a good attitude, I can tell that, and so just keep hanging in there!! 🙂 I know this may sound really far out -- but what came to me is this: I wonder if there is an outside chance that you may have intestinal worms... Every single symptom that you mentioned is not uncommon to having any number of intestinal worms...which could easily have been picked up from any kind of food you ate.
Just for your own curiousity you could Google/Bing intestinal worms/symptoms and I think you'll see what I mean.
Good luck to you!! Let us know how things are going, OK!

My husband is a baffeling case. He's tired all the time, no appetite to speak of, cronic back pain, joint pain which has shown negative for lupus and rumatiod arthritis, loss of 58 lbs. to date and i believe in the last week more loss for his watch is loose. I'm terribly worried.
