Infection complications in chemo port

My name is Robert, my brother in law has been receiving a trial drug to treat his cancer which has worked extremely well. He has never received chemo or radiation treatments, he does however have a port. Recently they tried to clean the port which resulted in an infection. He now has a new port and was on antibiotics for 4 weeks. He recently had a CAT scan done and found what they thought was a tumor deep in the sinus area. to make a long story short it turned out to be some kind of fungus or mold. It was taken to the lab and they said it is very aggressive. I’ve never heard of anything like this before, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
