My name is Braulio Lozano and I am a survivor of a transplant of both lungs. I am 67 years old. In 2008 I began to feel changes with my health. I consulted my doctor who referred me to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. The diagnosis was IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS, a very serious illness affecting my breathing. The doctors immediately began treatment and I traveled often to Jacksonville for follow-ups while at the same time I was working. A few months later I was placed on the national list for transplant candidates. My illness was advancing dangerously rapid. On september of 2011 I had a double lung transplant, the operation was succesful. I am now in the process of recovery but thanks to God and the transplant team at the Mayo Clinic I am doing quite well. Needless to say, transplant operation and the subsequent medical care require good health benefits. I want to express with this letter how grateful I am to the donor and to the donor”family. Words can not express my deepest sense of gratitude. This selfless gesture of authorizing and donating two life sustaining organs so that I continue on living is a great attitude. I have been given and incredible gift TWO NEW LUNGS AND A NEW LEASE ON LIFE. This has been a life changing experience for me and I believe the best days of my life are yet to come. I want to express my eternal gratitude to God in first place, to tthe Mayo Clinic transplant team and my family and friends who always have been very supportive throughout my ordeal and process of recovery.
