My mom just had heart surgery this year. She had what was called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy…thickening of the heart muscles…which makes the heart work lots harder to pump blood thru out the body. Sometimes known as sudden death.
My question is, during surgery would it or could it be common for the heart to tear after removing the part that was thickening the muscle? thank you for any help any one has!

Though that can happen, it is not usual, esp. at a place like Mayo where they do this surgery all the time. Where did she have her surgery?
