My father is 87, was in great health (golfing, walking etc.), 2 months ago, He had a stroke, and last week they found stage 1 rectal cancer, 6cm from the anal passage. The DR. has recommended surgery to remove it on Wedenesday, and an ileostomy., the surgeon and his Cardiac Physician say it is major surgery, but that it is what they would do. How high risk is it? I am very worried and would appreciate any guidance. About 12 years ago he also had a double bypass and a valve replacement. Thank you for any thoughts.
