Muscle Relaxers & Pain Pills Effects On Bronchiectasis
I just had shoulder surgery & was prescribed Robaxin ( methocarbamol), hydrocodone, and Motrin for pain control. Since being on these meds I’ve noticed increased mucus ( a lot ) in my lungs . Is there a connection?

Motrin, for one, can increase stomach acid and might add to reflux/heartburn through increased aspirations into your lungs especially during sleep. Something that *might* help is to take the Motrin with food, a few hours before sleep and sleep elevated. I do not know about the other drugs but I do know that hydrocodone (opioid type drug) can cause terrible constipation. Eat prunes etc to ward that off. Hope you heal up quickly.
@scoop thank you so much for your input. Today I stopped the hydrocodone & Robaxin. The mucus is so much less/better now . My oxygen has also improved. I was drowning in the mucus last night , and nebs & ACT’s were not getting it out. I have an appt with my pulmonologist tomorrow , so it will be interesting to have her weigh in.
