Moving house

Hi everyone

My husband and live abroad just the two of us . We left our beloved rental six months ago. Our rent was going up found a townhouse to buy. I loved living there. During the packing and move I started to feel scared getting uneasy feelings I never experienced before. It would happen quite suddenly while doing normal activities. It’s an awful feeling like something is very wrong like you having a mental decline. You struggle with things you didn’t have a problem with before. I feel terrified like you want to scream but no sound comes out. You want reassurance but too scared to go to the doctor.

@coffeechoc918 it sounds like you are having anxiety or panic attacks. Do see your family doctor for reassurance and possibly get some help dealing with this. Stress can manifest itself in panic or anxiety attacks. I learned breathing techniques that helped me to deal with my panic attacks.

@coffeechoc918 It is very possible that while you and your husband made very rational and logical decisions to move your emotional response is one of doubt and anxiety. This is a big deal as you are or have changed all that you knew and loved.

Tara Brach, Ph.D. is an American psychologist whose approaches to meditation and mindfulness I have used for years.

I'm so sorry, but fully understand. Moving is right up there with major stressor like death in the family. You loved where you lived and maybe worry possitive feelings will all evaporate in new environment. Anxiety is real. Help is possible. If nothing else, find a counselor who can confirm that is the issue. Blessings 🙌

@coffeechoc918 three years ago we made a move to a smaller city after thirty three years living in a neighbourhood we got to know so well. That move was very stressful so I can relate. I thought I would not find neighbours as good as the one I was leaving. Not happy living in this smaller city, but our next door neighbours are wonderful and make it all worthwhile. Who knows … you too may get great neighbours, and your stress and anxiety may become a thing of the past …

I can understand the stress of moving that is a big deal, so I would focus on the excitement of moving in to a new home that we own. Nobody can tell us not to put holes in the walls for hanging pictures, or change the color of the rooms good luck have a house warming party and invite the new neighbors Dave
