Moms memory

Posted by anthony3744 @anthony3744, Mar 12 9:21am

Hello, my mother is 75 years old, and has been struggling with severe memory loss. She doesn’t remember conversations a few minutes after they happen. She gets distracted easily and never used to. We have been working with neurology over the past year or 2, and there are no signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s thank god. They have her in mematine to help, and we also started her on a vitamin b12 supplement because she was deficient. It’s to the point though that I want answers on why this happening. Our last appointment they just put her on a higher dose of the memantine but I would like answers to why she can’t remember. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction that would be appreciated more then you know.

@anthony3744 first, I am sorry for you and your mom.

I’m 76. I have Mild Cognitive Impairment. The diagnosis was made by several “memory” tests by a neurologist. I’ve had all the usual tests. In the beginning everything looked normal. Things changed a bit eventually.

They also gave me Namenda. I felt worse. When I stopped talking the drug, my thinking became more clear. I was told that some people react differently to it.

I have chosen, or they have chosen me, 2 hobbies. I try to paint. Try means I am not an artist per se. The other, jigsaw puzzles. I have never done either of those things before 2020. Now, everyday.

There are lots of resources out there for you. Best wishes.

My husband lost his short term memory when he started talking Statins. Twice. Once at 65 and again at 68. Once he stopped taking them his memory returned. If your Mom is taking them it might be worth a chat with the doctor. Both of my husband's docs said the Statins don't cause memory loss....both have changed their minds now.
