Minieres

Posted by @jokoco, Jul 10, 2011

Three years ago in July of 2008, I was hit with severe, sudden onset vertigo, nausea and vomiting. I had about 4 attacks in the following 3 months each of lesser severity. I was treated for symptoms and have lost hearing in my left ear. I limit my sodium intake. However I have a constant noise in that ear like the sound one hears when a large shell is places at the ear, likened to the sound of the ocean roar. Has anyone experiences this disease? Are there any further treatments or even cures? What are is your history with this disease long term?

Hi, I have had Menieres Disease since I was about 15 years old (over 25 yrs). Sadly to say, my vertigo(room spinning, off balance) comes and goes in episodes lasting days or weeks. I have even been put in the hospital when it was so severe that I could not stand up. I guess I have learned to cope with it and even go to work with mild vertigo. When my vertigo is more severe with nausea and weakness, I must stay home and rest. I take Anti-vert medication when I am dizzy and sometimes valium, both are prescribed by my ENT doctor. I have been told by several different specialists that there is no cure for Menieres Disease, only ways to treat the symptoms. Not sure what else to say, but feel free to ask me questions.

Do you also have hearing loss and if so do you wear a hearing aid? How about tinnitus? Does a hearing aid help this?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I do have tinnitus and a sense of fullness in that ear, a typical Minieres symptom. No, I do not use a hearing aid. I’m not sure if that would make it worse or better.

Amydolphin, do you have any specific coping techniques or exercises? I found some eye exercises which seem to help with the vertigo.

I have had tinnitis longer than I’ve had the BPPV’s. Also, have any of you tried Canalith/particle-repositioning maneuvers ?

I would like to share my story about amalgam fillings with you.

I started losing my hearing about 6 years ago and starting getting vertigo about 4 or 5 years. Starting in mid July of 2011, I was unable to move my head 2 inches without throwing up constantly and could not function without Dramamine 2, both day and night. Before I learned how to control the vertigo with Dramamine 2, I could not do anything. I just laid in bed and could not move. Even to get up to go to the restroom meant throwing up at least 10 times one way both to and from the restroom. I was diagnosed with Meniere’s. Someone told me about Meniere’s being associated with amalgam fillings, which have mercury in them. I started to research this and found out that a lot of my health issues were symptoms of mercury poisoning. (I will list these symptoms below.) I went to a Doctor of Natural Health, one with a degree in the field, and found out my mercury levels were extremely high.

I made an appointment with a holistic dentist, to avoid any additional mercury exposure. I had my right side amalgam fillings removed first, since it was effecting my right ear. I was so afraid to stop taking the Dramamine 2 for fear of not being able to function again. So I stopped all Dramamine 2 in the day time and did a couple of nights of a half a dose and one night of a fourth of a dose. In less than one week, I had totally stopped taking the Dramamine 2 and have not had vertigo since!! I have never been so grateful. (I am in the process of detoxing for the mercury, which you most do to remove the mercury that is in your system.)

I had my amalgam fillings approximately 25 years before my meniere’s hit me. Here are the other health issues I had, but did not relate them to my fillings until after I started researching mercury:

Irritability
Restlessness
Angered easily
Indecision
Inability to concentrate
Insomnia
Numbness in limbs for no reason
Muscle weakness
My hands had just started to tremor on occasion
Coordination got worse
Bleeding gums
Loosening of teeth
Excessive salivation (especially noticeable at night)
Foul breath
Sometimes a metallic taste in mouth, but not always
Vertigo – terrible case of
Ringing in ears, along with other noises
Lost most hearing of hearing in right ear
Candida
Chronic constipation, then sometimes diarrhea
Abnormal heart rhythm and EKG
Repeated chronic sinus infections
Tumor in jaw close to one of my large fillings – believe to be cancerous (now rid of)
Joint pain, that I thought was fibromyalgia
Chronic sinus infections and terrible allergies (although I grew up on a farm and did not have allergy problems)
Severe dermatitis on right hand developed shortly after receiving my fillings. (I am curious to see if this goes away after I detox.)
Subnormal body temperature
Excessive perspiration
Unexplained pain
Chronic fatigue

There are many other symptoms.

Please let me know if you did receive this. This is not the only cause of Meniere’s but it is for sure one of them. I have not had vertigo since my fillings were removed and I had vertigo every day and night. I could not miss one dose of Dramamine 2 and had to take over the amount listed just to function.

I have inquired to my dentist about this for years, as well as PCP,Aad was ignored. Now that all my symptoms have finally been diagnosed, after almost 4 years of insane pain, hair loss, etc., etc. I am investing in having them removed. Hope to start the process in the near future. And hope this helps with the remainder of symptoms that I still experience. I don’t doubt this will help. It is a small fortune, out of pocket, but worth it as a positive step in regaining lost ground.
I would be intrested in hearing from others that have done this and subsequent outcomes.

I have regained almost all of my hearing. In fact today I made great progress, a big difference just since yesterday. I can now hear someone well while talking on the phone on that side (my right side) for the first time today. It has been 2 and 1/2 weeks since my right side was removed and 1 and 1/2 weeks for my left side. I am regaining more energy and for the first time today was able to watch someone play a driving game at the arcade without throwing up (and that was while I was on dramamine 2. I tried to play the game and drive, but it made me disoriented, so I stopped. When I get done detoxing I should be totally back to normal. When you go to a dentist, go to a holistic dentist or you will be exposed to more mercury. Also you will need to detox for mercury. The mercury is absorbed into the cells in your body and is not released without a mercury detox. That is what I am in the process of doing now.

Don’t blame your dentist for steering you wrong, that is what they are taught in their schooling. Doctors are also steered wrong and most don’t believe. I called my MD after I found out what was causing my problems and told him I am now better and ask them to please update my medical record to reflect the cause. He wanted to see me to discuss. He is a great doctor, so I am hoping he will listen and others will receive help. Please let me know your out come. My has been great.

P.S. Mine cost about $1,800 and was worth every penny. I wish I knew sooner.

Glad to hear that you have improved so much. I have located a dentist that specilizes in the removal process. I realize my dentist was educated in one way and glad that he is receptive to it now….but I will be going to this other person because of the removal process will be handled differently. What is it that you detoxed with, post removal?
I will keep you posted, this won’t start untill after the new year.

I have had BPPV and used repositioning maneuvers successfully. But my doctors tell me Menieres is a whole different condition. The maneuvers seem to have no affect on it. It is strange that both these conditions involve the inner ear with similar symptoms and yet we are told they are not related

I have had menieres for about 7 years and don’t know how it started. I’m 45 now and I was 35 when I had a stroke on the same side I lost my hearing. So not sure if that’s what started mine. I have dealt with the severe vertigo off and on for those 7 years. I’ve tried allergy meds and motion sickness pills and they didn’t help. I had an attack just 2 nights ago for the first time in 2 years so you never know. I just wish there was a cure. Did the valium work for anyone.
