Might have to have surgery alone - Mayo in Rochester
Hi — Wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to have surgery by oneself at Mayo in Rochester? Specifically, I had a bilateral mastectomy in November, 2020 and am now looking at having the tissue expanders / implant exchange surgery (last stage of reconstruction) this fall. My husband will most likely be able to accompany me, but it's not 100% certain. I did absolutely fine after the mastectomy (they sent me home that same day), so I'm hoping Mayo would allow this. I would HATE to delay my surgery anymore than I already have. The plan would be that I would stay a night or two at a hotel afterwards and then get transportation home. We live about 90 miles away. THANKS!!

@coffeefreak I would direct you to call the appointment office to confirm based on post-surgery guidelines, etc. Here is the link to reach out: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
Will you come back and provide an update on what you learn based on your specific procedure?
@coffeefreak did you find out what the post-surgery guidelines are? Rochester has several for hire companion and nursing service that can help you post surgery. If you need such a service please call Concierge services at 507-538-8438
Thank you! I called the general number in the link above (from Amanda), but if memory serves, I think they advised me to contact my surgeon. I am hesitant to do that because it has been tough to get a surgery date, and I keep reaching out to them about that. I did reach out to one of the services you mention (I can't remember which one), and I found out that that would be a possibility if need be. That was a relief. (It's very likely that my husband will be able to accompany me, however.) Thanks!
