Mayo's facility for cancer patients

Posted by netpatient @netpatient, Dec 13, 2021

I contacted Mayo Clinic via mails, and after several interactions and submission of forms and documents and reports demanded I was disappointedly turned down. I believe Mayo has the capacity to handle my NET case. Can you please re-review as I need to visit your clinic for treatment

Why on earth do you refuse to treat people? I don’t understand that at all. My daughter is newly diagnosed, terrified and wants the expertise of a specialist there to treat her very rare carcinoid tumor

Hi @shari0912, I can imagine both you and your daughter are very frightened. Unfortunately at times, Mayo Clinic has more requests for appointments than available openings. May I ask which Mayo location your daughter applied to? Did her local oncologist submit the referral or did she self-refer?

Hello @shari0912

I am sorry to hear that you were not able to get an appointment for your daughter. I have had three surgeries for carcinoid cancer of the upper digestive tract and I understand how difficult it is to face cancer and a rare cancer is even more frightening.

I'm not sure where your daughter is located but the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation has a listing of doctors who specialize in carcinoid cancer. Here is a link to the website, https://www.carcinoid.org/for-patients/treatment/find-a-doctor/.

Going to a university hospital system can be a good idea as well. These facilities are research oriented and have top-notch specialists. I do not live near a Mayo Clinic campus but I do live near a renowned university hospital in Michigan.

Has your daughter looked for another Carcinoid Specialist?

That is such good news, @shari0912. Do you have an appointment date and time scheduled now? I'm sure you will be pleased with the consultation.

How far is the Mayo facility from where your daughter lives?
