Mayo Clinic AZ and FL Living-with-Cancer Patient Symposium

Posted by @afrancesca, Sun, Feb 17 10:43pm

I am registered for the 1 day Mayo Clinic Living-with-cancer symposium. It is on Saturday, February 23rd at the JW Marriott at Desert Ridge. It is complimentary for Mayo patients and caregivers. I registered back in Novermber when it was recommended to me by a nurse at Mayo. Has anyone else been to one in prior years? Maybe the moderators of this site can post some details and let everyone know if there is still time to register for those who are interested in attending? Thanks.

I attended this symposium (3 tiimes) several years ago, when it was a 1 1/2 day event. I enjoyed it: informative, entertaining, and well-orchestrated.

Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN also hosts patient events. All patient events are posted on the Cancer Education Center page here on Connect: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/page/cancer-education-center/

I am from India . Can't join the symposium. Please share briefly the important information of the previous and present symposium for the others to know and follow for educative purpose .

I am interested in Ovarian Cancer . Not enough information on that or groups to attend.

Is this in Florida? Because my Doctor at Mayo in Scottsdale/Phoenix has never said a thing but that would not surprise me!

Being a few years ago, I can’t recall many specifics; however, the morning was professional/
medical presenters speaking on topics such as:
-the latest immunotherapies
-stem cell research
-how to prep for your app’t (i.e. list questions/concerns to ask the doctor)
-patients advocacy
-legal, insurance, & financial concerns
Afternoon included break-out sessions lead by specialist doctors on specific cancers such as:
-breast
-lung
-melanoma
(etc., etc., the more “common” types of cancer)

Sounds like that would be really interesting.

@bjh369 there were 2 events. The AZ event was on Feb 23 and the FL is happening Mar 2. These are annual events. I hope you can join next year.

@rochellewisner, I hope you'll join the ovarian cancer discussions in the Gynecologic Cancers group: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/gynecologic-cancer/ Like this one:
– I have ovarian cancer https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/new-to-group-have-ovarian-cancer/

@roch, Mayo Rochester hosts several patient events with a different focus. Follow the Cancer Education Center page on Connect https://connect.mayoclinic.org/page/cancer-education-center/ Event updates are posted there.

On Sat, Mar 2 at 11 am CT, the session called Evolution of the Breast Cancer Clinic will be streamed live on Connect here:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/webinar/video-qa-about-the-evolution-of-the-breast-cancer-clinic/
You can take part from anywhere. Questions will be taken from both in-person and online participants.

I would love to come to the event next year. Thank you.

I didn’t make it to the program, but I do have Ovarian Cancer and would enjoy talking with other Women who have it.
