Lupron Brain Fog
So my Dad has been on Lupron for several years and it appears to be working very well. While no doubt some of this is a result of aging (he’s 90 but in remarkable shape) we have noticed more and more lapses with his short term memory which I know can be a side effect of hormone therapy. He’s 100% tuned in to current events, people’s names, historical events, etc .. but if you ask him where he had lunch today he may struggle.
Has anyone had experience with any medications that might help counter the potential impact of what I’ve read could be Lupron Brain Fog?

This tea is supposed to help, I drink it most days after being on ADT for nine years.
Prince of Peace 100% American Wisconsin Ginseng Root Tea
Another thing that’s supposed to help is
Organic Mushroom Coffee,
Amazon has both.
@jeffmarc reading your use of ginseng I remembered reading something about it so using AI I found this:
No, you should not take Ginkgo Biloba or Ginseng while undergoing Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) and taking an Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitor (ARPI). Both herbal supplements pose significant risks of severe drug-drug interactions, potentially rendering your cancer therapy less effective or increasing dangerous side effects." There was much more info about interactions, if you query Gemini AI with the question: "ginkgo biloba and/or ginseng if on adt and arpi?" you can read the expanded response. I used to take both, before my PCa dx. I hope you are not offended, I think it best to gather all information possible and then make an informed decision. I have to say I do miss my ginseng tea....among the other things this cancer has taken away from me....

Did you search using the criteria of “ Prince of Peace 100% American Wisconsin Ginseng Root Tea”
Yes, there is a clear difference. Prince of Peace American Wisconsin Ginseng Root Tea uses Panax quinquefolius (American ginseng) grown in Wisconsin, while Asian ginseng uses Panax ginseng (such as Korean or Chinese ginseng). They differ significantly in traditional properties and bodily effects.
I didn’t find in a a search that results were the same as you outlined.
@jeffmarc Well parsed Jeff! However:
when I queried for: "American ginseng if on adt and arpi?"
Gemini AI answered:
"If you are on Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) and an Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitor (ARPI) for prostate cancer, you must consult your medical oncologist or urologist before taking American ginseng. While American ginseng is sometimes studied for cancer-related fatigue, it can biologically interact with hormone-driven pathways and prescription metabolism, making professional clearance vital."....... there is more information if you enter the AI question yourself.
Then I asked: "Prince of Peace 100% American Wisconsin Ginseng Root Tea while on adt and arpi?" (to satisfy your criteria)......AI said generally the same as the above.
I was on a roll so just for fun I asked: "American ginseng if on blood thinner?" (as many older people are, myself being one):
AI answered: "Taking American ginseng while on blood thinners is generally discouraged because clinical studies show American ginseng can lower the effectiveness of the medication, increasing your risk of dangerous blood clots"......AI had more info on that also.
I take a a variety of supplements myself but am being pretty careful not to end up with more problems than I already have. I think it seems prudent for the original poster to research if any kind of ginseng is best for his 90 year old father's cognitive problem. I know I would.
I still hope you are not offended and want you to know I read every one of your posts here (and elsewhere), you are a valuable source of information, I appreciate what you do for so many. Thank you!

3 ReactionsI hope your dad is going okay!
I'm 61 and I'm just completing my sixth month of sixth-month Lupron injections (plan is 18 months). It gives me serious brain fog and short-term memories issues at times. My friends have had to repeat things to me several times. I can't come up with the "right" word when talking at times as well.

4 ReactionsYes, I hope your Dad is doing well also. At his amazing age of 90 I would not worry too much about a slight hiccup in his short term memory. At 94 my Dad couldnt remember little things, we would just laugh it off and go on with the conversation. I would say: Dad, "you have to remember not to forget" He thought that was pretty funny. Now at 73, on ADT, Im laughing off my inability to come up with the right word....I just let others finish my sentence then I say "thank you". It was hard watching my parents get old (94 and 98) but it was the honor of my life to help them as they did. Now its my turn to get old and I hope to do it gracefully, with family that love me, leaving them with good memories while mine fade away.
Maybe a bowl of ice cream instead of another pill for your Dad? That sounds good.......right now.....for breakfast!

1 Reaction@kevtrav 59 and same here....4 months on Eligard and I am searching for words sometimes and short term memory loss at others. Go from the bathroom to my desk and somehow lose my pen and ....damned if I can't find it! lol.
had a 3 month shot and just had another 3 month shot. They said that should be it for me, as I'm having SBRT next month.
I'm just under 3 weeks from getting the spacer put in and 5 weeks until the radiation treatments.
Take care, all.

1 ReactionTRT helped clear up my side effects from Lupron. The side effects are caused by low testosterone caused by Lupron's chemical castration. I was diagnosed as with hypogonadism before and after Lupron with a recovered testosterone level of 111 a year after completing 4 months of Lupron. One study indicates that hypogonadism may make one more prone to get prostate cancer. I wish my personal physician had allowed me to get TRT ten years ago. TRT is Testosterone Replacement Therapy.

1 Reaction@dantewedge "Alexa, where's my phone?" This happens way too much. Haha
Sometimes my forgetfulness gives me the opportunity to have more exercise (I live in a two-story house):
1. I'm downstairs doing something, & realize I need something upstairs.
2. I go upstairs (getting some exercise), & when I get there, I've forgotten what I went upstairs for.
3. So I go back downstairs, & resume what I was doing.
4. That triggers my memory for what I wanted upstairs.
5. So I go upstairs again (getting more exercise), THIS TIME remembering what I needed, & fetch it.
6. Now I come downstairs again.
Fortunately, I don't repeat this cycle (at least not for the same item).
However, when I have several places to visit (preferably in a particular order) while driving, I find that I'm making more U-turns, because I've momentarily forgotten one of the stops.
Your mileage may vary. 🙂
