Lupus and light malar rash

Posted by mg01 @mg01, Oct 3 6:48am

Hi everyone, I’m just in process of diagnosis with a rheumatologist for Sjogrens and possibly I feel Lupus. I’m just wondering with lupus is it possible to have a light malar/butterfly rash that comes and goes daily? It wouldn’t be as severe as google pictures but it would come with light sensitivity and temperature changes. It would go from cheeks and across nose and it’s red but I’m getting confused to the extent it should be when I compare it to online photos. Any advice or help is welcome.

The butterfly rash of lupus is more persistent than
what you describe. Rosacea and blushing with hormonal flux are more variable. In any case wear your sunscreen.

I have lupus, sojourns, mixed connective tissue disease, RA and Hashimotos. I left went to Germany and it was in the 50s and I left great. I landed in dfw and coming off the jet bridge it was 110 in DFW and before I got to the bottom of the jet bridge I had my lupus rash. It is just not on your face. I get the rash on my hands also. I wear long sleeves to keep it the sun off my arms and legs. It took two to four days to completely go away. My oldest son made me take pictures of it to show the rheumatologist. I have had it my whole life. I was put on IVIG panzyga every three weeks for three days. I am also deficient in igg. I take B 12 shots every two weeks. Myb12 levels get really low. I also have severe neuropathy normal nerve conduction is 7.5 and mine was 1.0 in 2023 and I haven’t had it retested.

I was recently diagnosed with mix connective tissue disease with scleroderma, Systemic lupus, poly inflammatory disease, Raynauds and some signs of two other autoimmunes. May I ask, what type of treatment are you on or what helps you with your condition? I was on a tapered dose prednisone and long term regimen of plaquenil. Along with blood pressure medications and GI meds.

I’m on plaquenil now for 3 months and had tapered down course of steroids. I’m also on GI meds too. Just in the waiting period for the plaquenil to take affect though the exhaustion is easing.

Same, I am in a waiting period waiting for the plaquenil to effectively. I am almost at the 6 month mark. The fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, night sweats, muscle weakness, and nausea/vomiting has improved.
Hang in there we got this!
