Looking for help with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR)

Posted by @davehudsn in Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat, Feb 5, 2012

I am desperately seeking help and advice on LPR. I have search the Mayo Clinic and can not find any references or literature on this.

I live in Atlanta, GA and am trying to find a doctor that specializes in LRP diagnosis and treatment.

Is anyone out there able to help?

Thanks in advance,
Dave Hudson

I have LPR figured it out my self because My docs were not familiar with the condition. I did some extensive research on the net printed out the articles from legit journals and asked my doc to sit down with me and review them together. She did and agreed to try the hi dose Nexium 4 40 mg caps a day for one month it worked. Now I am on 1 a day. Before this I was coughing constantly, hyper salivating, could not talk, had to stop working and could not even go out. To this day even the ENT is not all that familiar with treating this. neither the specialist or gastroenterologist knew how to dose the medication. My internist tells me that since she became aware she has had several more patients that she has treated successfully
Have an endoscopy, have a pharyngeal scope by an ENT so you know what you are dealing with. If you have a hiatal hernia lose weight
Avoid very hot foods avoid iced drinks room temp best chew gum right after eating to reduce the pepsin in your mouth avoid acid foods for now..
This condition started after a respiratory infection. good luck. I totally understand your misery. you. Need to be assertive in your insistence the reward is getting your life back.
best, Nancy

Dave use google. I found a few really detailed articles. LPR is a separate condition. It is NOT Gerd. it has different risk factors and different treatment. they were all treating me for Gerd until that one doc agreed to try the tx in the article.
