What are your lodging recommendations for Mayo transplant patients?
I will be having a SCT at Mayo in Rochester The transplant will be outpatient so I will need an apartment for my husband and me during a 6 week stay. I would like information from others who have had extended stay, The two places I’m considering is Charter House and Broadway Plaza

Yes.
@cmael We also rented an AirBNB after my transplants. It was nice to have two bedrooms and a nice yard.
On my 4 trips to Mayo AZ for my liver transplant and follow up. Our insurance company put us up at three different hotels. All three were fine and about equal. One was a Sonesta extended stay. It might not be the one @benedict66066 mentions as it was a good 20 minute uber away from Mayo it was older but did have large rooms, a kitchenette and good service. One was a home to 2 Suites that was smaller rooms but did have a kitchenette and was just fine. It was pet friendly if you are lucky enough to have them along. I guess our choice for # 1 was the hotel literally next to the Mayo parking lot. I think it was a Residence Inn. It was for a follow up visit and no kitchenette and nothing exceptional but location, location, location. We were able to walk to all appointments and there was a free shuttle if we wanted. But all three were fine.
I would just like to add our experience to the accommodation discussion. We were unable to climb the waiting list at Help and Healing House so were forced for part of my recovery to stay in a hotel. After a disastrous stay at the Hampton Inn on North Scottsdale Road, we were so fortunate to follow some of the suggestions here and booked a suite at the Sonesta Suites Gainey Ranch. Remember, indeed I forgot, that after transplant, you will need to follow strict meal preparation requirements and accomplishing those in a hotel room without a kitchenette is a real challenge. :). Some of the reviews for Sonesta Suites Gainey Ranch were less than favorable, but we found our room beautiful. They have a steep discount for Mayo patients, so don't be discouraged by the website prices. A bonus is the proximity of restaurants you can walk to, if you wish.

3 ReactionsBen, no i didn't they believed me. The mask i was wearing might have helped. They are literally 2 miles from the Hospital so i think they probably get a lot of patients from Mayo.

1 ReactionDanab, thanks for the Info. Every time I attempted to stay at "The Healing Home" it was unavailable. Hopefully when I finally get the call for the transplants and 2 month stay - it will be available. You got a great rate at the HI - other than asking for the "MAYO" rate - did you need another code? Ben

1 Reactioni know i am writing a lot but i want to second Linda's comments about the staff at Charter house. We had a medical
emergency late at night and we were supposed to leave early next morning. Of course we could not and Linda, in housing coordination Dept. , there did not hesitate in extending our stay in same apt. even though other people were supposed to be there that same day. I was worried that will have to look for hotel or atleast another apt in Charter house.. but no problem..Charter House staff came through for us. Amazing people.
