Locking in your gains

I know when we stop one med you have to take another to “lock in the gains”. My question is how long do the gains get locked in? I know everyone is different but has anyone successfully locked their gains back to osteopenia and able to stay there? Or are we lucky to lock them for maybe a year or two? I’m 60 and the thought of taking these meds on and off for the next 20 years (if I’m lucky) is just daunting.

Yes, the idea of meds for life is scary, especially if one has other issues, like weakened kidney function, or cancer, etc. keep us informed of what you learn that is especially valuable…meanwhile, wishing you stronger bones and good health.

Hopefully after locking in gains, able to go on a drug holiday for a few years. But monitoring should be done to determine when to start another round of meds.
The amount of time depends on the type of medication used as that determines how long it remains in your system, as well as an individuals fracture risk and underlying reasons for bone loss.
Its not a one size fits all.
I totally agree dealing with this for 20+ years is extremely daunting!
Having the right Doctor to come up with a longterm game plan is critical, in my opinion.
