Three weeks before surgery and have been doing exercises, but looking for a more precise video on Kegel exercises.

2 ReactionsI followed Michelle Kenway's video below for a few weeks, working up to 2-3 times per day, before I started working with a pelvic floor PT specialist for about 6 weeks leading up to my surgery. During my first visit, the PT told me that I was already doing Kegels correctly. I attribute that to the video - the routine is simple, and Michelle explains the how and why in a very understandable way. I continued to incorporate Michelle's routine with my PT's recommended exercises right up until the day before surgery. Although I can't say exactly how much Kegels contributed to my immediate post-catheter and continued continence, I'm extremely happy with the result.

I sure wish I could find the web site a mentor gave out months ago. I went on it and it was excellent. Maybe the mentors could post again. The presenter that I had used was extremely helpful and one part of the instructions was really humorous in how she explained what is affected and did not affect.

@layingthegroundwork -- I also used Michelle Kenway's videos and I've also been happy with the results. I did find I had to watch them a few times over a few weeks as I practiced them to (I think) get them right. For example, it took me a while to figure out how to breath (as she recommends) and not just hold my breath while I do the Kegels. But once you figure out the breathing it makes doing the Kegels easier. Best wishes.

2 ReactionsYou're never going to know for sure if you're doing them right unless you go to for PT. I thought I knew exactly how to do them until I had one pre-op session of PT. She said I was somewhat close but not quite right. Someone needs to be able to put their hand down there and actually feel what you're doing. It was well worth it. I also had three sessions post-op. If your Dr. won't send you to PT I'd question his whole plan. I was completely dry in about 5 months. Never needed more than 2 thing pads per day.

But as others have said, it took an in-person pelvic floor therapist to really get me on the right track.
Only used two pads post op. First in doctor’s office and second the morning after. I found I did not need them. Essentially continent two days after catheter removal. Used Michelle’ method shortly before and then after surgery. Stress incontinence only happened when I failed to do Kegels or I ate junk for first month. Afterwards, I was fully continent. Very grateful to my surgeon and Michelle.

you are really on the right course now checking things out and making sure you are doing them correctly. You might also want to get into bladder retraining just FYI (and core exercise combined with Kegels)
