Just joined Mayo discussion group. I have two bulging disks at L5-S1 and L5-L4 and looking for a very experienced neurosurgeon. I had consultation with a neurosurgeon and he suggested surgery. I want another opinion and hope to do the surgery at Mayo. Any suggestions.

Good luck getting an appt. or a surgeon who will operate on you. If this is your first back surgery, maybe they’ll see you, If not your out of luck. The surgeons at DISC are very good, but with horrible bed-side manners, I’ve had my past 2 spinal fusions, one Cervical, the other Lumbar done at Sonoran Spine. They are AWESOME. highly recommend them. hope this helps, if not good luck to you

Herniated or bulging? Confirmed with MRI? You probably have recent X-rays as well? An experienced, well-respected chiropractor could save you the unpredictable outcome of spinal surgery. You would be doing yourself a huge favor if you engage the chiropractor first. Surgery is the absolute LAST option to consider. My wife is proof that the surgery isn't the best FIRST option(herniated and bulging causing pinched nerves at L5/S1 and L4/L5). A chiropractor surely helped her(but not just ANY chiropractor). Ask around.
