Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) low blood platelets in children

My grandson, eleven yrs old has been diagnosed with IDP an immune system problem that attacks blood platelets. He received an infusion which brought the platelet count up to normal after three or four days. A week later he had a blood test to check his count and it had dropped to 27,000. He is back at the hospital receiving another infusion today. Is their any way to find out why all of a sudden his platelets dropped originally (down to 6,000) or the most recent drop to 27,000.

Hi @rancebrown and welcome to Connect. That must be so frightening to watch your grandson go through this.

I wanted to share the following links in hopes they could help you find some answer.

What have your grandson's doctors said about this?
