Iron Depletion in Blood related to COVID?

Posted by stellm @stellm, Jun 11, 2021

Has there been any reports of iron depletion in the blood after receiving the Pfizer vaccine?

Exactly. Now they won't acknowledge that vax injured people exist or help us. We are censored and discarded. I'm glad myocarditis is getting some attention, but this goes way beyond that. I personally have about 25 new health issues due to Pfizer covid vax. I appreciate mayo letting us talk here uncensored.

And many of of going through this are out hundreds or thousands of dollars covering medical deductibles. I'm easily in the $5000 range personally which I can little afford.

Yes. My husband has never had any history of anemia or low iron. He received the Pfizer vaccine in March. He began feeling more tired over the next two months. He saw his physician and she suspected some type of internal bleeding based on the blood test, He had an upper and lower endoscopy. No internal bleeding was found. They are going to try the camera endoscopy next week. We don't think this is going to reveal anything. His iron, ferritin and red blood cell count is extremely low. The only change in has been receiving the vaccine.

I had the same thing! My iron dropped so low I had to be hospitalized and given transfusions. They ran all the same tests as your husband + more and never found anything. Never once did they say it could be related to the vaccine. I had Pfizer too. 2xs + booster. Oddly enough, I started to feel a bit better after I caught Covid!

I got two doses of the Moderna vaccine, the last one in April. I have no history of iron deficiency or anemia. On June 2, I was admitted to the hospital with extremely low iron and anemia. I was given two pints of blood over two days. I was not aware of losing blood. I was given two endoscopies and a colonoscopy--all three were normal. None of my health care practitioners could figure out why I was suddenly experiencing these problems. I had two iron infusions after hospitalization. I have since had a blood test to determine if my iron anemia problem was solved, and it appears so. Initially, I didn't link the problem with the vaccines, but I now suspect there may be a correlation.

Had the same exact thing! Emergency transfusions; they said I had NO iron left in my system and was dying! Gave me iron transfusions for 3 days in the hospital; 6 weeks later I was anemic again and needed more transfusions. Also had a blood clot in my leg. I’ve never been sick, low bp, los cholesterol, low bmi and despite a year of tests, no explanation for why this happened.

I am very curious if the Vax caused Essential Thrombocythemia in me? Of course, the doctor said it was not possible because it was caused by a gene mutation. I don't believe that the doctor really knows.

I do not think the Moderna vaccine caused my ET. My platelets were being watched by my GP for several years…they went up slowly. When they hit 621 he referred me to a hematologist. I was diagnosed with ET JAK2 in June 2022.

However, I had seven vaccines in 2021…three Moderna, two Shingrix, flu, and DTap booster. For the first time in my life I developed psoriasis on my scalp and some on legs. I think it is possible that having so many vaccines affected my immune system. My GP and hematologist have no idea.

Thanks for your comment. They were monitoring my plaletes, too, for at least 6 months. I also went up gradually. Are you being treated? I just started the HU. Everything that I've read online about the vaccine says it can cause blood clotting issues. I guess no matter the cause we have to get the platelets down. Take care!

First time I saw the hematologist my platelets were up to 735. She did extensive labs and bone marrow biopsy. I was started on 500 mg Hydroxyurea every day. I started getting daily headaches and one first time ever vertigo episode. She took me off it for a few weeks and then started me again 500 mg every other day as my platelets had dropped to 498. My next appointment is January 3 and a I hope to be able to stay on every other day. Headaches are gone now. I am hoping my body is adjusting to Hydroxyurea.

I forgot to mention that I was already on a blood thinner for AFib so I do not need to take a daily low dose aspirin.

Eileen, I'm not sure how to pm you. I'd love to stay in touch and compare notes. My platelet numbers went up from the 500's to the 600's. I decided not to do the bone marrow test. I'm on HU every other day with an aspirin a day. I am hoping that my platelet count goes down on this low dose. I am 69 years old and relatively healthy. Hope all goes well for us both. Thanks for reaching out.

Same me I become anemic, detected during a routine blood test which was five months after my second dose of Pfizer. Before the vaccination, all my blood test are normal including my iron level. I didn't know when the iron depletion happened but definitely, but it happen after the vaccination. Not sure if there is a correlation. No GP except one epidemiologist, who is also a doctor, advises me not to take the third dose until my condition is stable, especially the iron level.

She told me some of her patients develop thyroid problems or worsening of preexisting thyroid issues after the vaccination

Actually, around this time, there was a family outbreak of covid, and not sure if I was infected. My symptoms skin rash and fever. But too late to get tested If I did catch mild case of covid, would itbe cause a lowering of iron?

This is exactly like my dad now, and he is always cold. I have noticed he looks grey \ white in the face. He also had to give a stool sample. I've told him to stop getting those vaccines this is his 5th one he got

Regarding possible anemia:
Knowing I would be at high risk from covid I got all five Modernas, the fifth in early September. Whether what I will write next may have any connection with that I do not know. IgM Kappa MGUS dx brings me to Mayo Connect.

When I saw my hematologist this week he was unconcerned that my platelet count is 185, ferritin 10.8. This isn’t anemia?

Just wondering. Thanks for being here for my question!

Wishing everyone a healthful and happy New Year!
