Ill digestion linked to Parasympathetic nervous stress?

Posted by @clemlaa, Sep 13, 2016

Stress response liked to poor digestion sounds right. I’ve been googling Parasympathetic overbalance for stress response and wow I’ve got along way to go for finding more peace. Emotional stress from family deaths has done a number on me. Seems the littlest things send me over the edge too much stimulation or too much and I stress. Interesting stuff. I like this lecture https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3YobOEJxIog

Any more advice?

Emotional stress seems to be the worst. Got to get that flight or fright respone in check and digest foods in peace

Thanks for Steves Fowkes video. (Wish he had spoken louder.)

While I can’t relate to your digestive problems – some of my favorite ways to cope with stress is exercising and meditation. I was skeptical about meditation at first, but then someone explained it to me like this: Your brain is just like a computer and it is constantly taking in information. If a computer is never allowed to shut down and restart, it’s functioning becomes a lot slower and strained. Meditation basically acts as that restart for your brain. This link shares a lot of good info on meditation for beginners, http://www.gaiam.com/discover/158/article/meditation-101-techniques-benefits-and-a-beginners-how-to.

@safetyshield @ntp01 @mvestuto @srobison @flip1949 @grandmajan @cherriann @johnbishop do any of you have any favorite ways of how to handle stress?

Yes! I like that analogy. Thanks so much for the support. Dr Rollins at the Fort Worth Wellness Center described it one time in her Kundalini Yoga class that the body is an upside down fig tree (the brain the roots, the nerves the branches, and the fruit the stimulation and sensory aspects of life a human experiences) so if the fruit is sucking dry depleting the tree branches the root will run dry and at some point it dies.

Sometimes not an easy task to handle stress. When I do feel a little stressed it’s normally because I’m fretting about something not getting done or a situation I’m in. I look for one of my cats and we have a one way chat fest – they listen, they get a treat and I feel better.

Emotional stress can aggravate IBS but is not the cause. I have flair ups when peaceful and happy. It is a dysfunction of nerves and contractions in Bowel In my case it seems to be a genetic or birth defect I have had my whole life. I do try to eat small frequent meals, take gas pills, eat slowly, and exercise. It helps, but not a cure

Good point ntp. It’s not a cure but stress respone does have mischevious hand in the poker game of health. As does environment and spirit/emotions/attitude.

Stress can cause a lot of physical problems if not controlled or ignored. Exercise can help and talking to someone you respect about your stressors can also help. The most important factor is to identify your stressor ASAP. you can do this yourself or a loved one or a professional. Either way do not ignore it or it can cause physical problems along the road and than the resolution gets more complicated. From your post about getting stress from a physical concern going to a doctor or other professional would be your best bet.
